Why You Keep Experiencing the Same Emotional Reactions
In one of my previous Blog Posts (Resilience – Riding the Ocean of Emotions) I mentioned that Resilience
is often described as the ability to "ride the ocean of emotions" — even in challenging situations.
But what if true resilience doesn’t start in the moment of the challenge…
but much earlier?
What if it begins with understanding
why you react the way you do in the first place? ✨
The hidden layer of resilience
Many people try to become more resilient by:
🧠 thinking more positively
🎮 controlling their reactions
😐 or trying to “stay calm”
But often, that only works temporarily.
Because underneath your reactions, there is something deeper:
👉 emotional patterns!
What are emotional patterns?
Emotional patterns are learned responses.
They are shaped by:
👉🏼 past experiences
👉🏼repeated situations
👉🏼 and how your nervous system adapted over time
At some point, your system learned:
👉 “This is how I respond in situations like this.”
And now, it repeats that response — automatically.
Why this matters in daily life
These patterns don’t only show up in big, dramatic moments.
They show up in very normal, everyday situations.
🌿 Example 1: At work
You receive feedback from a colleague.
It’s neutral. Maybe even constructive.
But inside, something shifts.
You suddenly feel:
😮💨 tension
🤯 pressure
🥸 or the need to prove yourself
Your thoughts start racing:
“Was that criticism?”
“Did I do something wrong?”
Even though the situation itself is not threatening…
👉 your reaction feels very real
🌿 Example 2: In your family
You’re having a conversation with someone close to you.
At some point, their tone changes slightly.
Nothing major.
But inside, you notice:
⚡️ a feeling of distance
🤨 irritation
🫥 or even withdrawal
🤐 You become quieter.
😡 Or more reactive.
And later you wonder:
“Why did I respond like that?”
Here’s the key insight
These reactions are not random.
👉 They are patterns.
Your system is not reacting to the present moment alone.
It is reacting to something it has learned before.
And this is where resilience really begins
Not by suppressing your reaction.
Not by forcing yourself to feel differently.
But by:
👉 recognizing the pattern
Because the moment you recognize it…
something shifts.
You are no longer fully inside the reaction.
👉 you are aware of it
A new possibility opens
And in that space, something powerful becomes possible:
👉 you can respond differently
Not perfectly.
Not immediately.
But gradually.
Closing
If you’ve ever felt like:
👉 “Why does this keep happening to me?”
This is where the answer begins.
Not in changing the outside.
But in understanding what is happening inside.
And what you’ve seen so far…
is only the surface.
In Part 2 of this series, we will go deeper.
From the obvious reactions
to the subtle patterns underneath.
From what you can see
to what is actually driving it.
Because once you start recognizing your patterns
in real time…
👉 you begin to see yourself differently
And that’s where real change begins 🌿
With Love
